Alexander holds a Master of Fine Arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, ranked as one of the most influential graduate programs in the world. He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
In addition to his fine arts training, Alexander studied graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Studying under professors who are leaders in the industry taught Alexander that design education is most effective when taught by working designers, ensuring that the knowledge they impart stays current and relevant.
In 2009, Alexander founded Openstudio Academy of Art+Design as a platform to promote excellence in design education for high school students in beautiful British Columbia. Like his paternal and maternal grandfather before him, both educators and founders of technical high schools in Taiwan, Alexander has found his true calling with teaching. As an educator, Alexander passionately imparts his unique blend of knowledge and experience as a painter and graphic designer to students committed to careers in design. His students have successfully gone on to pursue design in elite design universities in Canada, United States and the U.K.
Alexander has represented The School of the Art Institute of Chicago as a portfolio judge on National Portfolio Day since 2009.
